Full day, face to face course in Manchester

This full day course is ideally suited to those with limited experience of teaching D&T at Post16 level or teachers who want to improve their A Level provision. During the day we will look at the main elements of the A Level study in Design and Technology. You will receive guidance and advice to ensure you plan, deliver and monitor a broad, balanced and relevant A Level provision in your school.

Course Objectives:

  • Develop a clear understanding of the requirements of A Level Design and Technology.
  • Plan and deliver an A Level course that covers all aspects of the syllabus*.
  • Prepare students for the NEA element of the course.
  • Investigate options for effective delivery of the theory content
  • How to ensure maths and science elements are covered
  • How to assess students and effectively track progress towards their expected targets
  • How to integrate students with limited prior experience of D&T

By participating in the course, delegates will:

  • Have a greater understanding of the requirements of A Level D&T
  • Be able to plan and deliver an effective A Level curriculum.
  • Have greater confidence supporting high quality NEA work.
  • Have hand on experience of curriculum planning to gain confidence in delivering all key materials for their chosen syllabus.
  • Support students preparing their work for applications to creative courses at University level.
  • Have greater confidence in teaching Advanced Level D&T to a wide range of student abilities.

*While the course will address the general requirements of A Level, it will use AQA syllabus, NEA, tracking and assessment materials for reference.

Meet your Trainer

Paul Woodward – Curriculum Consultant

Paul has been teaching D&T for almost 30 years with most of those years as a Head of Creative Arts Faculties or as Head of D&T. Following a degree in 3D design, Paul initially trained for the Post 16 sector, so he has extensive experience of teaching A Level D&T, but he has taught the subject from KS2 onwards in a wide variety of schools ranging from Pupil Referral Units to Prestigious International Boarding schools. Paul’s MA is in Education specialising in Professional Development in Teaching and Learning which led to him working as a consultant, course designer and presenter for D&TA alongside his industry and teaching roles…
