This exciting, full-day primary D&T course is perfectly suited to both teachers new to delivering/leading D&T, and also colleagues experienced in delivering D&T. Dyson engineers are famed for their modelling, prototyping, design iteration and innovation, and in this face-to-face course we will explore a range of techniques, processes and briefs aligned to the National Curriculum and beyond. The D&T Association trainer will help to demonstrate fun and engaging ways to tackle elements of the D&T curriculum, including structures, mechanisms, modelling and problem solving. The agenda will allow time to explore some of the resources which the James Dyson Foundation offers to schools. There will also be an opportunity to hear from an Engineer at Dyson and learn about their role and how they got to the position they are in now.

During your lunch break, delegates will enjoy a tour of parts of the facilities at the Headquarters in Malmesbury.

Course Objectives:

  • To introduce fun ideas to engage pupils within D&T in your primary school and promote creative problem solving
  • Engage in hands-on practical CPD with Dyson ‘Challenge Cards’ and further resources
  • Improve personal subject knowledge and practical skills
  • Increase knowledge of how professional designers and engineers work, to be able to translate elements back in school

By participating in this course, you will learn:

  • How to use an iterative design cycle in D&T to improve student independence
  • Practical techniques and approaches in mechanisms, structures and systems & control
  • More about the work and processes at Dyson
