The project aims to give pupils the opportunity to develop something in the real industrial world, where engineers and designers often have to identify problems and think of solutions within their area of expertise. The focus for the design work is Electronics and Communications Technology (ECT), and it is within this that pupils will make the majority of their design decisions. The resource pack includes two PowerPoint presentations containing range of pupil activities and possible project starting points, and used with the accompanying teacher notes will help to raise awareness of career opportunities and paths in this sector.
The resource also includes information about careers and links to a number of websites and further useful resources.
Different schools operate different timetables so activities here have not been broken into specific lesson timings but instead presented as tasks for the individual teacher to adapt to his/her school and classes. It is recommended that a minimum of ten hours is spent by pupils completing the project to allow sufficient time for pupils to fully explore the project starting points and possible design solutions.
