GCSE Textiles Rescue - Using New Technologies to Improve GCSE Grades
Ages 14-16
First released 2012; updated 2014
This presentation was delivered to a group of textiles teachers at a training event in 2012. The event was recorded and the narration is included in the presentation which gives ideas for using new technologies within textiles teaching, to motivate students and help them achieve their potential exam grades. The presentation looks at new technologies such as CAD/CAM, e-textiles, smart phones, the internet and VLEs and how these may be applied in developing textiles projects. It looks at different software, embroidery, digital and dye sublimation printing, new fabric technology and incorporating electronics into textiles products.
Please note: these resources refer to the previous GCSE specification and not the current D&T GCSE.
A number of other presentations and instructional videos have been developed and are available showing a range of practical skills students can develop to improve their GCSE students’ grades.
The GCSE Textiles Technology programme has been run by the D&T Association since 2012 with funding support from the All Saints Educational Trust. It was originally offered as CPD events to those schools who wanted to improve their Textiles Technology GCSE results to an average score of 60% or above grades A-C. The programme was a mix of face to face national workshop and regional workshops and on-line support meetings.
