A set of two PowerPoint presentations which provide a detailed guide to making Christmas ginger biscuits and presenting them in an advent calendar for display. The presentations come in children’s versions and include teacher notes which include coverage of associated health and safety issues. There are equipment lists and an outline of the skills that will be learned followed by a step by step guide through mixing the dough, rolling out and cutting and moulding shapes for the biscuits. Once cooked, the biscuits can be decorated and included in an advent calendar display in the classroom. The second presentation guides the children through making the advent calendar display, including pockets to house the biscuits. Again there are step by step instructions to follow and an example of a finished display to inspire children.
The resource also includes a recipe, Christmas activities and teacher planning notes. The notes are adapted from QCA unit 5D but you can simplify this for any year group, or extend it for more able/older pupils. It is designed to use as a stand alone activity to encourage interest in food and encourage practical cooking skills or as a project to complete in the weeks before Christmas.
