Paul Calver
Bio:
Profile: Paul Calver BSc(Hons), MBA, FRAeS
Paul started his career designing spacecraft control systems for BAE Systems prior to moving to Cobham Plc as a project manager. He has held executive and board level positions, including managing director of UK and USA companies, in leading manufacturing and technology driven companies within the aerospace, marine and renewable energy sectors.
In 2000, Paul focused on supporting new technology companies and startups by taking a role as CEO of a novel fuel cell technology company, Chairman and founding shareholder of a Chinese manufacturing business that provides precision metal components for the marine, automotive, machine tool and airport markets and, more recently, investing in, and supporting a startup company that offers big data analytics and AI design services.
For 9 years, Paul provided specialist support to HMG United Kingdom Trade & Investment, then HMG Department for International Trade, in advanced manufacturing. His role was to help companies develop business strategies that supports export growth and market entry, identify opportunities in market and provided strategic support and advice to the UK government. Paul also provides consultancy services that help businesses development process and manufacturing systems that enable them to meet the challenges of the future.
Paul was a member of the high level group of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Industrial Sustainability, the University of Cambridge, is a member of the IET Manufacturing Policy Committee, a guest speaker on the Goldman Sachs 10,000 SME Growth Programme, and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
