Nurgul Yardim Mericliler
Bio:
Dr. Nurgul Yardim Mericliler is an architectural designer, researcher, and independent curator. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Oxford Brookes University, working on the ENACT 15mC and UMALTRAN projects. These projects focus on co-creating with communities using AR/VR and understanding mobility and activity in neighbourhoods.
Nurgul holds a Bachelor of Architecture, an MSc in Interdisciplinary Urban Design, and a PhD in Communications. Her research focuses on makerspaces as a dynamic social phenomenon with case studies in London, exploring makers, their communities, and physical spaces. She has recently authored a chapter titled ‘Podcasting as a Methodological Tool: Research Conversations with Makers’.
After extensive experience as an architect in global architectural studios, Nurgul founded Anylab in 2018 as a bursary resident at Somerset House Exchange, providing curatorial and creative direction and design strategies for organisations worldwide. Her project, Pop-Up Makerlands, was selected as a co-chair pick in the Design in an Age of Crisis global open call and exhibited at the London Design Biennale.
Since 2019, Nurgul has been hosting and producing the Anylabtalks podcast, featuring interviews with designers, architects, and makers, exploring their ideas of optimism for the future through contributions to the world of design. Anylabtalks has collaborated with Ecocity, Wired, and Dezeen for special episodes. She is also the author of the Sense of Place newsletter, and co-editor of the Architecture Diary platform managed by New London Architecture. Nurgul is a frequent speaker and guest reviewer at architecture schools and facilitates discussions in international panels and lectures.
