The Tour Continues
Published 1st July 2022
Our CEO Tony Ryan has been touring across the length and breadth of the UK to meet with D&T Teachers in response to the recently released Education Policy Institute research paper 'Spotlight on D&T'.
The report includes some incredibly alarming figures including that the number of students who took D&T at GCSE level fell by half (44% to 22%) from 2009 to 2020. In fact, figures have steadily fallen for the last 20 years and will continue to descend without intervention.
We have already held meetings in Birmingham, London, Brighton, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle. We have further meetings to be delivered in Cardiff, Bristol and Norwich. You will have seen various emails, social media posts and news pieces about the purpose of these meetings and why we need your support but if you want further information about what we are hoping to achieve please do get in contact: info@data.org.uk
Why is it important to join us?
Now represents an opportune time to remind government and decision makers of the benefits of a high-quality design and technology education. In order to stand up for the subject we need to initially open up conversation, discuss issues faced and understand the strengths and difficulties of delivering D&T in schools.
This can only be gathered from the collective voice of D&T teachers.
These meetings are free to attend and are being held after school from 4.00 to 6.00pm. Refreshments are included.
