Teaching Primary Food and Nutrition professional development programme
Published 7th December 2022
The British Nutrition Foundation are offering a new, free, professional development programme, Teaching Primary Food and Nutrition (TPFN). This has been developed equip attendees with the necessary knowledge and skills to teach high-quality food and nutrition lessons, and inspire delegates to champion a whole school approach to food.
While teaching food and nutrition may take-up a relatively small part of the curriculum, it does have some unique management issues and teaching approaches which need to be carefully considered, for example, managing and teaching practical cooking classes.
Through this programme, the overall aim is to build confidence and competence in teaching food and nutrition, whether someone is new to the profession, or have been teaching, or working in schools, for a while. This programme formalises and supports professional learning around food and nutrition teaching.
The programme is open to primary school teachers, trainees and teaching assistants. The TPFN programme provides audit and reflection tools, offers free online training events and signposts key information to support teachers and teaching assistants on their personal CPD journey. A free physical 'Professional Portfolio' (folder and booklet) will be sent to the first 1,500 registrants.
