Published 23rd April 2024
In the latest edition of Teach Secondary, our CEO Tony Ryan has submitted an article that delves into the current state of Design and Technology education, offering insights into the challenges the subject faces and a hopeful perspective for the future.
Tony acknowledges the difficulties D&T education encounters in the piece but remains optimistic about its prospects nationally.
“I was delighted to be able to write an article for the April edition of Teach Secondary, looking at the plight of Design and Technology education. Those of you who know me will be aware that despite the obvious difficulties that the subject is experiencing, I am optimistic that the future looks brighter nationally for D&T education.
There will undoubtedly be a need for adaptation and change, which is never an easy process, but the world is changing fast, and our education system exists to equip our young people to step into life confidently after compulsory education. Despite the challenges, there are so many good teachers out there who deliver high-quality learning experiences for their students, and so many industries firmly behind the Association's work and, by definition, supportive of the subject.
The article praises the dedication of educators who continue to provide quality learning experiences in D&T classrooms and acknowledges the support of industries backing efforts to strengthen D&T education.”
