See our actions to date and our proposals moving forward to ensure the survival of Design and Technology in schools via this PowerPoint.
Design and technology in schools is in a state of national neglect. In 2003 we had 430,000 GCSE entries and over 20,000 at A Level. Now 78,000 and just over 10,000.
In 2009 we had 14,800 trained and qualified teachers, this number is now estimated at 6,500. The subject has lacked leadership and direction. Meanwhile, design alone contributed £97 Billion to GDP last year. This figure rises to over £600 Billion when engineering and manufacturing are added to this total. Together these sectors employ 1:8 of the UK workforce.
