Share Your Innovative Timetabling Approaches for D&T

Published 21st January 2025

We are currently supporting the DfE with exploring alternative approaches to timetabling Design and Technology that move away from the traditional ‘carousel’ system. The ‘carousel’ system of students moving around materials areas in D&T has been used for a number of years in many schools and we are looking to collate examples of alternative approaches at Key Stage 3, whilst maintaining safe, reduced class sizes and experiencing the full national curriculum across the Key Stage.

We would love to hear from schools about how you’ve tackled these challenges. Have you implemented innovative solutions to timetabling D&T outside of this system? If so, we’d be delighted if you could share your experiences and approaches with us.

Selected schools may also have the opportunity to feature in a case study, showcasing their approach and helping positively impact future curriculum space planning.

If your school is willing to share its experience or be part of a case study, please send us details of your approach entitled ‘Timetabling’ to info@designtechnology.org.uk.

Thank you for your time and commitment to advancing design and technology education. We look forward to hearing from you.
