D&TA Excellence Awards Guest Speaker

We were lucky enough to have guest speaker Ruth Amos at our 22nd Excellence Awards evening on the 14th October. Ruth is an engineer, inventor, entrepreneur and the founder of Kids Invent Stuff, a YouTube channel dedicated to encouraging kids to be creative and to invent whatever their imagination leads them. Ruth is an engineer and has always been interested in how things work. She started her company after she saw a need for more creativity and invention in the education system.
Ruth is a keen inventor herself and has created a number of products including the StairSteady as part of her GCSE Resistant Materials Course, Ruth established StairSteady Ltd in 2006, she then went on to win Young Engineer for Britain 2006 with her design. She went on to study mechanical engineering at university. After working in the engineering industry for a few years, she started her own company, which designed and manufactured products for the home.
She started Kids Invent Stuff with the goal of helping kids to turn their ideas into reality. The company offers kids the opportunity to submit their ideas for new inventions, and if their idea is selected, Ruth and her team will help to bring it to life. Kids Invent Stuff has been a huge success and has helped to encourage a new generation of inventors. She is passionate about her work and says that she loves seeing kids’ faces when their inventions come to life. Ruth is proof that engineering and science is not boring and her inspirational talk demonstrated the need to continue to inspire future generations including ensuring that young girls also find STEM subjects accessible.
