D&T Summer School 2017

Our annual D&T Summer School will take place this year at De Montfort University’s spectacular new campus in Leicester in the East Midlands on 6th and 7th July this year. The University facilities are exceptional and will provide an excellent venue, ensuring this event is once again a highlight of the D&T year.  The Summer School provides the opportunity for teachers and all those involved in D&T education to come together, listen, observe, and actively take part in workshops and discussions. Whilst the sessions have not yet been finalized, you can be confident that we will secure recognised experts in their field, to provide a full agenda of presentations and workshops representing a wide range of D&T activity.

As normal we will be addressing the challenges that D&T professionals are currently facing. As you know, from September 2017, there will only be one Design and Technology GCSE offered by each of the awarding organisations (AOs).  This both modernises and subsumes the content and assessment procedures represented in the current list of 6 individual titles.

The summer school sessions will provide support to teachers implementing changes in respect to implementation, as well as providing opportunity for developing subject knowledge and pedagogical skills. Workshops are designed to help and support you through and ensure that both levels of confidence and expertise are developed. No prior experience is necessary, with sessions accommodating all levels.  There will also be a bespoke route focusing on primary D&T. Booking is open for the primary summer school.

Booking early will be important this year. Last year we had a record number of delegates, making it a really exciting and busy couple of days. Get your attendance in your school calendar and budgeted for now. There will be many workshops that you will want to attend, so as soon as we have a final list of these, we will publish these here so that you can ensure you are booked onto the ones that best meet your needs and interests.
