D&T classroom case study. Show us yours!

Do you work in a department where you can easily demonstrate flexibility in the way that you use the teaching space available to you?

We are working with the DfE to help to determine what a D&T Department refit might look like within a school from traditional separate rooms for wood, metal, food, textiles and CAD/Drawing to something that far better reflects the way that the subject is delivered today.

We are also attempting to find solutions to what a new build might look like for our subject. How many rooms? What degree of flexibility? What are the ‘must have’s’ and what are the ‘nice to haves’?

We are looking for examples of departments where you have carefully considered room design and use and have made changes to reflect the changing nature of subject delivery. We are not looking for perfection – It is more likely to be a journey unfinished but one that has at least been considered.

We require a quick side of A4 describing how you have considered and changed room use to increase flexibility and photographs or a video to exemplify your journey

Firstly, a big thank you to those of you who stepped forward and messaged me over the last couple of weeks to volunteer a case study of your department.

We are seeking departments that are willing to put themselves forward as examples of best practice in the subject. Before the iterative designer in you all says, “Oh that’s not me, our journey is far from complete” It doesn’t have to be. We are not looking for perfection, just a clear vision for the subject, how it meets the needs of your students and a curriculum that is carefully constructed to deliver these points…oh, and of course you must be delivering Design and Technology as an examination course.

We also need some Primary colleagues to step forward and showcase what they are doing to make design and technology an exciting and engaging activity for their students.
