A-Level, T Level and BTEC Results Day Tomorrow
Published 14th August 2024
As A-Level, T Level and BTEC Results Day approaches, students across England, Northern Ireland, and Wales are eagerly awaiting their A-level and Level 3 qualification grades. Students typically pick up AS and A-level results in person from 08:00, though some may receive their results via email. It’s important to check with the school or college about the specific arrangements in place.
Grading
Exams are graded on a scale from A* to E. Grade boundaries, which define the minimum marks needed for each grade, are set by examiners and released on results day. In Wales, Qualifications Wales will use statistical methods to help set these boundaries, aiming to prevent grades from falling below 2019 levels. In England and Northern Ireland, grade boundaries are determined using the usual process.
Not Long to Wait
Tomorrow, AS, A-level, and T-level results will be announced in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Students pursuing vocational and technical qualifications, such as BTec Level 3s and Cambridge Technicals, will also receive their results by or on this date. In Scotland, the SQA results for National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, and National Progression Awards were released on Tuesday, 6 August 2024.
What to Do on Results Day
As results day nears, it’s natural for students to feel a mix of excitement and nerves. It’s important to remember that results are just one part of their overall success. If grades aren't as expected, there are still many options available:
University and College Offers: Some universities and colleges may accept students who don’t meet the exact entry requirements, potentially offering a place on an alternative course.
Resits: Students can opt to resit their exams if they believe it would improve their outcomes. Schools or colleges can provide guidance on how to arrange this.
Other Routes: Apprenticeships, traineeships, and entry-level jobs are excellent alternatives to traditional academic paths. A gap year might also offer valuable time to reflect and plan the next steps.
If There Are Concerns About Results
Students who are concerned about their results can consider an appeal. In England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, schools can request a review of marks from the exam board. If the outcome is still unsatisfactory, students can appeal through their school, and the exam board will reassess the marks. In Scotland, students can appeal directly to the SQA if they are unhappy with their final grade.
Remember, exam results are just one chapter in a student’s journey. No matter the outcome, there are many paths forward, each offering its own opportunities for growth and discovery.
