Prior to entering Higher Education in 2005, I worked in three secondary schools. During that time, I have been a Head of Department, Head of Faculty and finally Assistant Headteacher in a large 11-18 secondary school. In each school I was responsible for modernising the Design and Technology curriculum and improving GCSE and ‘A’ level examination results. I have been a GCSE and A level examiner as well as an Engineering Lead Diploma Practitioner for the Specialist Schools and Academy Trust. I have a particular interest in electronics and computer aided design and manufacture. I have been involved in teacher training for over 10 years at Liverpool John Moores and Edge Hill University. During that time, I have led a PGCE in Engineering, an undergraduate course in Design and Technology and taught on a Master’s programme. I was editor of ‘Technical Matters’, the national journal for University Technical Colleges.
