I am a vastly experienced classroom and workshop practitioner. I have taught Design and Technology for 18 years, including GCSE Resistant Materials, MYP Design, GCSE Product Design, IB Design and Technology both standard and higher levels and A Level Design and Technology, BTEC Art & Design level 3, as well as MYP Art. I have also mentored newly qualified teachers starting a new career in Design and Technology. Outside the taught curriculum, I have been accredited as a Bronze and Silver HKAYP leader (similar to the Duke of Edinburgh award in the UK) and have been involved in the safe implementation and planning of the expeditions. Additionally, I have been a Making a Difference trip leader solely responsible for writing risk assessments to ensure the smooth running of overseas trips and the safety of supporting staff and students.
Before I embarked on a career in education, I was a fully apprenticeship trained and skilled Fabricator Welder, having 12 years safe and successful experience. My role included operating heavy machinery such as presses and guillotines as well as lifting cranes and welding and fabrication to set deadlines, I was also an accredited forklift truck operator. Towards the end of my engineering career, I was responsible for training apprentices on the shop floor, to meet the job requirements successfully and safely in a challenging and pressurised environment.
In my previous school in the UK, I was appointed to the role of Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) in teaching and learning (accredited September 2010). This involved coordinating and delivering CPD inset to the whole school, individual departments, and individual staff. I coached individual teachers to improve teaching and learning across the school. I have also mentored teachers to improve teaching and learning and their classroom management, teachers arranged to observe good practice and see outstanding teaching and learning.
I very much look forward to working with and training DT colleagues as an RDTHSC trainer in the future.
