Having taken my A levels in technical subjects, I studied for 4 years (5 days a week 09.00 to 17.00!) the teaching of Design Technology, and gained my Honours degree from London University. I have been a teacher for all of my career and worked in 4 schools around the UK and two in Germany. I soon became Head of Department and I’ve been Head of Faulty for half of my career. I have always taught students from Y7 to Y13 and never been just an administrator. I have always supported the staff in my departments. My experience has given me a thorough understanding of both the techniques used in a workshop and how to teach these so that students can realise their designs safely. As I visit schools as a Registered Design &Technology Health & Safety Consultant, my knowledge and experience are extended as I provide Refresher training to already skilled colleagues. Providing Initial training to staff less proficient in the use of workshop equipment is invaluable for their teaching career and enables them to gain a firm foundation of hands-on experience.
I live in Nottingham but I enjoy travelling so I am willing to work anywhere in the UK. I continue to support the schools in the counties around Essex, including London, where I have lived and provided this service for a number of years. I would welcome the chance to work anywhere abroad and particularly in Germany. I am certainly wiling to provide comprehensive workshop Health and Safety training in Scotland.
