Currently, I am a Curriculum Leader for Design and Technology and have been for 14 years in various schools.

The last 19 years of my career, I have attained extensive hands-on experience spanning across Design & Technology, with a prior career in furniture and graphic design. Utilising my expertise in classroom management, in school leadership skills, as examiner/moderator, and coach, I have led and played pivotal roles in supporting the development of the design and technology curriculum, continually optimising ways to evaluate student performance for further assessment. Also, I have navigated complex school challenges with Design &Technology through restructuring of existing strategies and realigning of priorities toward the schools’ ethos and overall vision.

I have supported and continue to support schools whose D&T department is an underperforming unit. For example, through spearheading and design of in-depth skills audits for D&T teachers, I introduced new exciting projects, developed both new and existing schemes work, created lesson resources that supported all learners in D&T including SEN. In addition, I have delivered CPDs in CAD/CAM SolidWorks, CPDs in improving quality of teaching and learning in D&T, identified key gaps, and successfully restructured four specialties: Product Design, Graphics, Textiles and Food, which resulted in a significant increase in subject uptake and outcomes at GCSE.

At KS3, I have improved KS3’s attainment levels and grades through, re-establishment of new benchmarks, introduction of new cognitive assessments and surveying, accompanied with data analysis to identify underperforming students and implement strategies to improve pupil attainment.

I am passionate about setting up a clear strategic vision, direction for schools, and its pupils, to develop them into thriving individuals in a highly popular subject. I am keen to hear from schools who need support to achieve the school’s key objectives and long-term goals for Design and Technology.
