Barry has worked in Design and Technology education for over 30 years. Prior to this he was employed for 14 years in the Engineering sector. During his Design and Technology career, he has been Head of Department, Head of Faculty, Head of ICT, Senior Teacher and Assistant HeadTeacher. A Design and Technology Association Consultant alongside a D & T Accredited Health and Safety Consultant and CADCAM Trainer.
At present he is a registered Health and Safety Consultant with the D & T Association. Also as an independent consultant, supports D & T Departments in many schools. Alongside the moderating mentioned below, he has delivered CPD for a national examinations board.
His Examination experience consists of; Moderator and Examiner – GCSE Resistant Materials, Team Leader – GCSE Resistant Materials and at present he is a Team Leader – GCSE Product Design.
In 2004, he was awarded a Gatsby Teacher Fellowship and in 2005, a Design and Technology Subject Leader Award.
During his teaching career, he worked for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) in the position of National Specialism Coordinator: Engineering Colleges where he supported the initial four Engineering Schools which eventually led to over 70 schools becoming Specialist Engineering Colleges. During this time, he also organised local, national and international conferences and developed links with a number industries and organisations. He also supported the development of GCSE Engineering and the Engineering Diploma.
His Examination experience consists of; Moderator and Examiner – GCSE Resistant Materials, Team Leader – GCSE Resistant Materials, GCSE Team Leader - GCSE Product Design and at present he is a Team Leader – GCSE Design and Technology.
